What is the exhibition branding for?
Sets a style for the exhibition and associated events.
Other degree shows will be happening at the same time.
2 Weeks from the exhibition - Notice is given, no later
Invite, press, release, flyer etc. - Possibility of generating interest in and around the exhibition prior to the opening.
Can be linked to other pre-exhibition events or branding that collectively provide some form of countdown to the show.
What is the catalogue for?
Providing contact details
Provides tangible form of documentation for an exhibition and work that to do the greater extent is ephemeral
Has a longevity that far outweighs the life span of the exhibition itself
Acts as a point of contact for interested parties, not only to the department but importantly, individual students
The catalogue is transferable, i.e. can be passed from person to person
The catalogue can be all of the above and more, potentially an artwork in its own right.
What is specially important from your perspective as regards to the catalogue?
That the photograph is the best print ability possible, resolution and sizing details, provided nearer to the time
Consider whether the photograph is of work that may be in the exhibition or not
That the statement is well written and exemplifies your practice avoiding flowery or pretentious language and objectively stands in for you and your voice in your absence in front of your work
Consider your audience
